Method 8151A Solids

Chlorinated Herbicides by GC Using Methylation or Pentafluorobenzylation Derivatization

This method is for the determination of chlorinated acid herbicides in soil and waste matrices.  An aliquot of the sample is extracted with diethyl ether and then esterified with either diazomethane or pentafluorobenzyl bromide.  The derivitives are analyzed by gas chromatography with an electron capture detector (GC/ECD).  Results are reported as acid equivalents.

This method replaces Method 8150.

* The analytes and detection limits listed for each method represent the typical detection limits and analytes reported for that particular method. Keep in mind that analyte lists may vary from laboratory to laboratory. Detection limits may also vary from lab to lab and are dependent upon the sample size, matrix, and any interferences that may be present in the sample.
