Method ID-212

Iodine in Workplace Atmospheres (Impregnated Activated Beaded Carbon)

This method is for the collection and analysis of iodine from workplace air.  The sample is collected using a calibrated sampling pump and a glass tube containing impregnated activated beaded carbon (IABC).  A modified sampling tube can be used to preclude any iodide-containing particulate if necessary.  After sample collection the sample is desorbed with an aqueous solution containing 1.5 nM sodium carbonate and 1.5 mM sodium bicarbonate and analyzed by ion chromatography (IC).

Loss of iodine using IABC has been noted when sampling in relative humidities > 50%.

NOTE:  This method supercedes method ID-177.
