This method applies to the measurement of carbon monoxide (CO) emissions from petroleum refineries and from other stationary sources. An integrated gas sample is taken from a sampling point, passed through a scrubber to remove interferences, collected in a Tedlar bag, and analyzed for CO. CO is separated from the sample by gas chromatography (GC) and catalytically reduced to methane (CH4) prior to analysis by flame injection detection (FID).
A Method 10A sampling train consisting of a probe with glass wool to remove particulates, three impingers in series, a pump, dry gas meter and Tedlar bag are used to collect the sample. The first two impingers are filled with 400mL of an alkaline permanganate solution (0.25M KMnO4/1.5M NaOH). The third impinger is filled with 250mL of the solution. These impingers act as scrubbers to remove sulfur oxides and nitrogen.
The analytical procedures for analyzing CO from Method 25 can be used as well per the method.
Do not fill the Tedlar bag more than 1/3 full if it is to be shipped by air transportation to the laboratory. Overfilling the bag, will cause it to expand and burst when it is depressurized during during air transport.
No Obligation Quotation for Analytical Services
If you would like us to provide a quote for laboratory analysis, just provide us with as much information as you can about your project (the more, the better) and we'll provide you a quote via email. As you are searching or browsing our Analytical Guide, you'll see the Request-A-Quote icon... just click on it to start the request process.

* The analytes and detection limits listed for each method represent the typical detection limits and analytes reported for that particular method. Keep in mind that analyte lists may vary from laboratory to laboratory. Detection limits may also vary from lab to lab and are dependent upon the sample size, matrix, and any interferences that may be present in the sample.
