Method 5007

Rotenone by HPLC/UV

This method is for the determination of rotenone. The sample is collected on 1-µm PTFE membrane filters with backup pads and extracted in 4mL acetonitrile. The working range is 0.4 to 10 mg/m³ for a 100-L air sample and the method is applicable to commercial formulations. Rotenone, a naturally occurring insecticide, is adequately separated by HPLC from other compounds (e.g., sumatrol, a-toxicarol, deguelin, elliptone, malaccol, and tephrosin) present in commercial cube root extracts. Rotenone is sensitive to photodecomposition.
