This method is for the collection and analysis of nitrosamines. The sample is collected on a Thermosorb/N tube. After collection the sample is desorbed in 2 mL 3:1 (v/v) dichloromethane/methanol and analyzed by GC with a thermal energy analyzer. When the thermal energy analyzer (TEA) is operated in the nitrosamine mode, it is highly specific for N-nitroso compounds. Most labs now substitute another nitrogen sensitive detector such as an NPD (nitrogen phosphorus detector) which is more common and gets equivalent detection limits. If high ambient concentrations of nitrosamines are expected, another Thermosorb/N tube should be used as a back-up in sampling.
The working range of the method is 0.003 to 10 mg/m³ for a 50 L air sample.
NOTE: This method replaces NIOSH methods P&CAM 252 and P&CAM 299.

* The analytes and detection limits listed for each method represent the typical detection limits and analytes reported for that particular method. Keep in mind that analyte lists may vary from laboratory to laboratory. Detection limits may also vary from lab to lab and are dependent upon the sample size, matrix, and any interferences that may be present in the sample.
