This method is for the determination of OSHA regulated hydrocarbons included within the boiling point range of n-pentane through n-dodecane. The sample is collected on a charcoal tube, desorbed with carbon disulfide and analyzed using GC/FID (flame ionization detector). Sampling breakthrough volumes may be reduced with high air humidity. Volatile organic solvents such as alcohols, ketones, and halogenated hydrocarbons are potential interferences with the analysis.
NOTE: This method is based on and supercedes Methods P&CAM 127 (benzene and toluene), S28 (cyclohexane), S82 (cyclohexene), S89 (heptane), S90 (hexane), S94 (methylcyclohexane), S311 (benzene), S343 (toluene), S378 (octane), and S379 (pentane). For benzene or toluene determinations in complex mixtures of alkanes (= C10), NIOSH 1501 for aromatic hydrocarbons is more selective.
No Obligation Quotation for Analytical Services
If you would like us to provide a quote for laboratory analysis, just provide us with as much information as you can about your project (the more, the better) and we'll provide you a quote via email. As you are searching or browsing our Analytical Guide, you'll see the Request-A-Quote icon... just click on it to start the request process.
Hold Times, Preservatives, Preps, Collection, Analytical & Documentation | |
---|---|
Holding Time: | The method states the sample is stable for 30 days if kept at 5°C. |
Preservatives: | None specified in the method. |
Required Preps: | Charcoal tube, 100mg/50mg (SKC 226-01) |

* The analytes and detection limits listed for each method represent the typical detection limits and analytes reported for that particular method. Keep in mind that analyte lists may vary from laboratory to laboratory. Detection limits may also vary from lab to lab and are dependent upon the sample size, matrix, and any interferences that may be present in the sample.
