Alcohols III


This method is for the collection and analysis of alcohols by GC/FID.  The alcohols evaluated in the method are: allyl alcohol, diacetone alcohol, cyclohexanol, isoamyl alcohol, and methyl isobutyl alcohol.  The sample is collected on a charcoal tube.  After collection the sample is desorbed with 5% 2-propanol in carbon disulfide and analyzed by GC/FID (flame ionization detector).  

The working range of the method is 1 to 10 mg/m³ for allyl alcohol (other analytes range from 45 to 140 mg/m³ at the low end and 175 to 680 mg/m³ at the high end of working ranges) for a 10 L air sample.  High humidity atmospheres greatly reduce the sampling capacity.

NOTE: This method combines and replaces Methods S52, S55, S54, S58, and S60.
