Method 986.15

Arsenic, Cadmium, Lead, Selenium, and Zinc in Human and Pet Foods

This method is for the determination of arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), selenium (Se), and zinc (Zn) in human and pet food.

The sample is digested with nitric acid to produce a digestate. Cd and Pb are analyzed by anodic stripping voltametry (ASV). As, Se, and Zn are analyzed by atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS) after generation of metal hyrides for As and Se.
