This method is used for the determination of formaldehyde and other carbonyl compounds (aldehydes and ketones) in ambient air. The samples are collected on a DNPH (2,4-dinitrophneylhydrazine) coated silica gel cartridge and analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
A known volume of ambient air is drawn through the cartridge. The method can be used for a time-weighted average (TWA) or for long therm sampling of 1-24 hours if the concentration of the analytes is in the low ppb range. The sampling system consists of a heated inlet (~50°C) coupled to an ozone denuder or scrubber to minimize water and ozone interferences.
After sampling the samples are extracted with acetonitrile and analyzed by HPLC.
No Obligation Quotation for Analytical Services
If you would like us to provide a quote for laboratory analysis, just provide us with as much information as you can about your project (the more, the better) and we'll provide you a quote via email. As you are searching or browsing our Analytical Guide, you'll see the Request-A-Quote icon... just click on it to start the request process.

* The analytes and detection limits listed for each method represent the typical detection limits and analytes reported for that particular method. Keep in mind that analyte lists may vary from laboratory to laboratory. Detection limits may also vary from lab to lab and are dependent upon the sample size, matrix, and any interferences that may be present in the sample.
