This method is for the collection and analysis of methanol, phenol, acetaldehyde, acrolein, formaldehdye, and propionaldehdye from stack emissions with analysis by GC/FID (flame ionization detector) and GC/NPD (nitrogen phosphorus detector).
The sampling train consists of a heated sample probe, heated filter box containing a Teflon filter, and three impinger contained in an ice bath. The impingers are filled with 75mLs of BHA (o-benzylhydroxylamine) solution. After sample collection, the impingers the contents of the three impingers are combined. The impingers are rinsed with a small amount of deionized water and the rinse is combined with the impinger contents. The impingers are then rinsed with hexane. The hexane rinse is stored separately from the aqueous impinger content and rinses.
The alcohols are analyzed from the aqueous impinger using a direct injection GC/FID. The hexane rinses are analyzed for aldehydes as oximes by GC/NPD.
This method can be used for high moisture sources but is not applicable for compounds that are insoluble or slightly soluble in water.
The method calls for a duplicate sample run, run spike, train spike and a field spike for each sampling location.
No Obligation Quotation for Analytical Services
If you would like us to provide a quote for laboratory analysis, just provide us with as much information as you can about your project (the more, the better) and we'll provide you a quote via email. As you are searching or browsing our Analytical Guide, you'll see the Request-A-Quote icon... just click on it to start the request process.

* The analytes and detection limits listed for each method represent the typical detection limits and analytes reported for that particular method. Keep in mind that analyte lists may vary from laboratory to laboratory. Detection limits may also vary from lab to lab and are dependent upon the sample size, matrix, and any interferences that may be present in the sample.
