This method is used to measure the corrosivity toward steel of both aqueous and nonaqueous liquid wastes. This test exposes coupons of SAE Type 1020 steel to the liquid waste to be evaluated and, by measuring the degree to which the coupon has been dissolved, determines the corrosivity of the waste.
A circular specimen of SAE 1020 steel about 3.75 cm in diameter is a standard size used for the coupon. The surface area of the coupon is calculated, the test container is filled with the waste to be tested and the coupon is placed into the test container. The waste is heated and agitated and the rate of corrosion of the coupon is measured.
NOTE: This method updates and replaced Method 1110.

* The analytes and detection limits listed for each method represent the typical detection limits and analytes reported for that particular method. Keep in mind that analyte lists may vary from laboratory to laboratory. Detection limits may also vary from lab to lab and are dependent upon the sample size, matrix, and any interferences that may be present in the sample.
