Method 613

2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (2,3,7,8-TCDD)

This method is for the determination of 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (2,3,7,8-TCDD) in municipal and industrial wastewater.  One liter of sample is spiked with a carbon 13 labeled 2378-TCDD internal standard and extracted with methylene chloride using a separatory funnel.  The extract is solvent exchanged to hexane, concentrated and analyzed by GC/MS (gas chromatography/mass spectrometry).  This is an isotope dilution method.

The method specifies alumina column and silica gel cleanups that may be used if there are interferences found in the sample matrix.
