Method 160.3

Residue, Total (Gravimetric, Dried at 103-105°C)

This method is for the determination of total residue from drinking, surface, and saline waters, domestic and industrial wastes.  A well mixed aliquot of the sample is quantitatively transferred to a pre-weighed evaporating dish and evaporated to dryness at 103-105°C.  Total residue is defined as the sum of the homogenous suspended and dissolved materials in a sample.

The practical range of the method is from 10 mg/L to 20,000 mg/L.
