This method describes the sample collection and analysis of benzidine, 3,3'-Dichlorobenzidine (3,3'-DCB), 2,4-Toluenediamine (2,4-TDA), and 2,6-Toluenediamine (2,6-TDA). Samples are collected closed-face by drawing known volumes of air through sampling devices consisting of three-piece cassettes, each containing two sulfuric acid-treated glass fiber filters separated by a spacer. Analysis is performed by quantitating the heptafluorobutyric acid anhydride derivatives of the amines by gas chromatography using an electron capture detector. Samples for 3,3'-dichlorobenzidine must be shipped and stored under reduced temperature to help minimize loss of analyte. These samples should be analyzed as soon as possible.
