Method 5512

Pentachlorophenol by HPLC-UV

This method is for the determination of pentachlorophenol. The sample is collected on a mixed cellulose ester membrane filter followed by a bubbler containing ethylene glycol. The sample is extracted with 10mL methanol followed by HPLC analysis with ultraviolet detection. The working range is 0.13 to 11 mg/m³ for a 180-L air sample. This method is also applicable to STEL (short term exposure limit) measurements using a 15-L sample. The method has been used to sample for pentachlorophenol in the presence of 2,3,4,6-tetrachlorophenol at a lumber yard. Note: This revises Method S297.
