Oxygen, Dissolved (Membrane Electrode)


This method is for the determination of dissolved oxygen from water ad wastes using a membrane electrode.  The probe method for dissolved oxygen (DO) is recommended for those samples containing materials which interfere with the modified Winkler procedure such as sulfite, thiosulfate, polythionate, mercaptans, free chlorine or hypochlorite, organic substances readily hydrolyzed in alkaline solutions, free iodine, intense color or turbidity and biological flocs. It's also recommended as a substitute for the modified Winkler procedure in monitoring of streams, lakes, outfalls, etc., where it is desired to obtain a continuous record of the dissolved oxygen content of the water under observation and may be used as a substitute for the modified Winkler procedure in BOD determinations.

The range of the method can vary on the instrument but 0-20 mg/L is given as an estimated range.

Inorganic salts can change the probe response so conversion factors are needed for saline waters.
